With her heart set on a coffee to go with her chocolate dessert one night at a chic restaurant in Viña del Mar, my friend asked the waiter what kind of coffee it was they served. "No es Nescafé, cierto?" He mumbled something we couldn't quite understand and headed toward the kitchen. Oh well, we could only hope this might be one of the few places that actually brewed coffee instead of bringing a cup, a packet of instant coffee, and hot water. However, much to our dismay, it was not. Less than a handful of places have real coffee in Chile. So if you need a cup every morning, be sure to pack a few pounds in your suitcase. Or try Cafe con Letras in Valparaíso, Cafe Haiti in Santiago, or even Dunkin' Donuts in the mall in Viña del Mar.
