If you stay in Argentina long enough, you're going to want to to make your own mate, a ritual that is perhaps Argentina's most important social tradition. (Don't know about mate? See post: http://glimpse.org/people/blog/user/13000/2009/apr/2/the-power-of-mate/) Don't forget a key first step in making your mate: Once you purchase the gourd used for the infusion, you'll need to cure it. This is because many mates are made from a hollowed plant, and many of them retain parts of the plant that will give your drink a bitter taste. To cure it, fill the gourd with yerba - that's the herb used to make the drink - and warm water. Let it sit for a day, and then clean it out. Questions?
