10 days to go...
It is only 10 days now until we leave for Mauritius. I am very excited as this is the first personal project I've worked on where I am not doing any design work at the same time, and I can totally focus on the end result, which will hopefully be a book and exhibition, but we'll have to see whether I can get some good shots first!
My hope is that over the course of the next six months I can document the true essence of Mauritius and its people.
I feel pretty organised; have all the film/chemicals/equipment sorted, and we have secured some accommodation in Curepipe, which is part of the central plateau of the island. We also managed to sell our car to the first person that looked at it, so things are rolling along.
It hasn't been all smooth sailing though; we have had to struggle for the past couple of years to save the money required for the trip, and our cat tragically drowned recently, which has cast a sombre mood over the occasion. We are also going to have to go through the process, yet again, of uprooting and leaving everything and everyone behind for an unknown result.
For those interested in the technical side, I will be shooting black and white on a combination of 35mm rangefinders and my fully auto Nikon, for when the going gets fast! Will be developing and scanning myself. See below some photos of some of the equipment I'm taking.
Next post will probably be from Mauritius, please stay tuned!
Tanks, grads, batteries, thermometer, neg sleeves, timer, dark bag, syringes, etc... and a can opener in the form of the Mannequin Piss...
D-76, surely the most trusted developer in the world?
400 rolls of Tri-X. Hopefully it will be enough for the trip.
