Bienvenidos!

Hello Family! I am here safe in Ecuador (thank goodness) after some close calls with flight delays and missing baggage. However, I arrived safe and now have all of my belongings. Although Miami seemed like a foreign country already, my international flight was great. I had a window seat facing the western sunset and as we hit land we dove into multiple layers of clouds. As the plane broke through the last layer of cloud cover, we were suddenly right on top of Quito seconds away from landing in a very urban airport. Already quite different than the states. Once I met up with the group, we went to the hostel and had a brief meeting with everyone to discuss this upcoming orientation week. It will begin at the hostel we are staying at in "gringo-land" in Quito, have a mid-week excursion into a cloud forest, and end up taking place in our future international school. Next week we go to a rainforest (I think we stay rurally with a family), and then the third week we will begin class with a concurrent home-stay with a new family in Quito. I will keep everyone up to date once I know more, as alot I am just playing by ear. Everyone has been very helpful so far and the directors I met were very nice, although they have a very limited grasp of English. i suppose that's good for me as it will force me to communicate better in Spanish. Hope everyone is doing well!
