Delphi

Waking up in the morning to be surrounded on the sides of the boat by the beautiful Greek mountains was breathtaking. The boat zoomed down the Adriatic Sea, passing by the mountains that looked like someone had painted them. After a light breakfast of a croissant and a hard boiled egg, we took pictures of the beautiful landscape. Waiting for the ferry to land, our group had a discussion about the readings in the lobby.

Boarding the bus in Patras, we made our way to Delphi, taking in the mountainous Greece along the way. I had always pictured Greece to be like in Mamma Mia, with white houses terraced along a mountain, and the crystal blue sea below, but this was not the image that was before me, though still beautiful.

Delphi, the next city on our tour, was located smack dab in the middle of a mountain, and was delicately and intricately terraced. Each street that went horizontally across the mountain, was connected by steps that went vertically up the mountain, and each of these little passage-ways were different from one another. And the view was breathtaking. A sea of millions of green-white olive trees surrounded the mountain and separated Delphi from the sea. The only problem with the city was that it was very much deserted because not many tourists are there in the wintertime.

That night we made a go of it at a local disco with nearly the entire tour group, but it was only us and a few locals since the town was obviously a shell of what it was in the summer months. One of our professors had gotten a deal with the owner, so we only had to pay 5Euro for entry (with a free drink included)! The owner even showed us some traditional Greek footwork.
