Acropolis
January 16th, 2010
Feeling very sick today, I was hardly in the mood to get out of bed, but I knew I couldn’t miss our planned trip to the Acropolis. We had a bus tour around the city which was informative, and then we made our way to the Acropolis. It was absolutely beautiful on top of that little hill. The hill was in the center of the city, and Athens sprawled as far as the eye could see around it, until it either encountered mountains or the sea. The ancient site was also filled with stray dogs, which was detracting from the experience. Seeing the Parthenon was awesome, but a bit disappointing because there was so much scaffolding on it. It was huge, and again I wonder how the ancient people built such a thing on such a high and steep hill.
After visiting the Acropolis, Kait and I went to Syntagma Square, where we walked around to do a bit more shopping. We shared a Greek Pizza, at a Greek restaurant, again amused by the ‘secretive’ pointing and laughing by the waiters because we were sharing food. The pizza was delicious, though way too many olives were on it!
After we went in a couple of stores, and I went back in Octopus to get a salt and pepper shaker that I had wanted. Once back at the hotel, I packed and took a nap until dinner.
Dinner was at a restaurant, all together and included, near Syntagma Square. I was very sad that it was my last night abroad, and the vegetarian food there was good. After dinner I and my friends went back to the hotel.
