Stranded in Germany
January 9,2010.
Well this trip abroad has certainly been the most challenging and it has hardly started yet! I’m sitting in Frankfurt right now, quite sleep deprived, looking out the window at what must surely be a blizzard. I think I’m comfy right here, thank you. I can only imagine how nerve-racking the flight to Munich would be in that weather, and I can definitely skip out on that experience. It isn’t in my life’s to-do list to be in one of those scary-movie depictions of a severely rocking plane, or the next devastating headline.
Our flight from Frankfurt to Rome was cancelled before we even left NYC. Our tour group ( I am traveling with some of the Honors students at my college) was split into 2 because they couldn’t fit us all on one plane. So now my half of the group must wait in Frankfurt for our very delayed flight to Munich, where we are supposed to meet with the others, but, unfortunately this flight is very late and we might not make it to Munich in time. Wonderful. I paid 2,500$ for a ten-day trip that will soon be cut to 9 days? Hmm. I can only hope that this unfortunate turn of events is sucking all the rest of the bad energy for the trip, and everything else will be fantastic.
On the bright side, I think I am in love with Lufthansa Airlines. The food was great...well, I am obsessed with anything that isn’t North American, so I guess everything tastes good to me really. But, the food was good, and I sat next to a wonderfully delightful German family, who lived very close to my mother’s old hometown in Germany. I enjoyed the fact that they didn’t charge for alcohol on these flights, and that real silverware was served with dinner. How classy. And they even had warm handy-wipes that they gave us before the dinner and breakfast they served. And, the big winner: they had vegetarian food! The only thing that is negative about Lufthansa at this moment, is, well, that it is located in Germany, and Germany has shitty weather, thus prohibiting me from getting to the country I am most in love with (though have never seen before), Italy.
So please, I really want to get to Rome soon, in one piece and not shaken around in a metal tube that is contrary to all things natural.
