October 31st--Halloween!
Happy Halloween! This morning I got up at 7am to use the bathroom before anyone else got up to use it. The hostel served breakfast, which was also included in the trip cost. For breakfast I had corn flakes with milk (it was warm though, yuck!), toast with jam, orange juice and hot chocolate. After breakfast, Jenny and I went to the local market in the square just around the corner from our hostel. Here I bought another Belgium waffle. This one was fried with powdered sugar in the batter. Delicious unhealthiness! J The market was okay. I didn’t see anything that was worth buying.
We went back to the hostel at 9:15am, to take our bags to the coach to leave at 9:30am. We first stopped at Essex Farm Cemetery where we learned about the famous poem “In Flanders Fields”. Our next stop was at a war trench (which is now surrounded my industrial buildings). We got to walk down inside the trench, which was really neat. We stopped at 2 other cemeteries, Langemarck Cemetery and Tyne Cot Cemetery. Once we got back on the coach from Tyne Cot Cemetery, we had our bagged lunches, which were also in the trip cost. We had a baguette sandwich, water, an apple, and a Twix? I don’t know why we had a Twix, but hey, it was good. We stopped in one more town that started with a ‘p’ where we was the Talbot House and got to look around the town for about an hour or so.
We hopped back on the bus and had a 45-minute drive to Calais Dock where we had to go through Uk Border Patrol. We drove on the ferry for a 5:45pm departure. On the deck, I sat with all the girls and we talked about random things until we arrived at the Dover Docks at 7:30pm. It took us until 9pm to get back to the ResHall, but it wasn’t bad. Jenny and I just shared songs on our iPod’s. When we got back to the ResHall, I had dinner with Sarah and Jenny. We made pasta with homemade tomato sauce out of tomato paste. We were done with dinner and gossiping by 10:15pm. I then went back to my room, checked my e-mails, etc. and took a shower. It was Halloween, but it didn’t really feel like it. Fun Face: Halloween was started in Ireland. Anyways, I went to bed at 11:30pm dreaming of Belgium chocolate and waffles! J
