Devon Donohue-Bergeler
I first studied abroad in 2001 in Dresden, Germany with a Boston University international program and became addicted! Since then I have worked for a study abroad program and created my own "study abroad experiences" by visiting friends in West Africa and Japan. This year, I completed my Masters at the Technische Universitaet Dresden in German Studies/Culture and Communication. I often focused grad school projects on study abroad topics, culminating in my thesis about the linguistic and cultural learning effects of excursions within a study abroad context. Currently I am a trainee in the Terminology Coordination Unit of the European Parliament's Translation Unit in Luxembourg. I help administer the IATE Database (InterActive Terminology for Europe), which is a tool for translators. I also coordinate a trainee project, prepare presentations for universities and other external contacts, help plan missions, correct English texts (the result of being the only native speaker), and interact in numerous meetings and seminars. It's like study abroad again, but with alot more responsibility... In March 2010, I will move to Hamburg, where my husband is doing his teacher "residency" (Refendariat) at an experimental school. That's the plan, unless this unpredictable job market takes me elsewhere...
