Haifa Mahabir
is a writer and photographer, born a stone’s throw from the coast of Venezuela on the island republic of Trinidad and Tobago to parents of Lebanese and East Indian descent. Influenced by a young life abroad and curiosity for place, her restless legs have compassed eighteen countries over five continents, crossing oceans and hemispheres armed with her journal and camera’s lens. A graduate of the State University of New York, College at New Paltz, Haifa has studied Creative Writing in New York and Paris. Consecutively in 2008 and 2009 she was recognized as the Year’s Best Young Traveler by Travelers’ Tales Solas Awards, ironically chronicling her solo-misadventures in Rwanda and Paris. Haifa considers herself an observer, balancing on the edge of the world.
