[Bangkok, Thailand] My friend and I were visiting Bangkok during the Thai New Year, or Songkran, and we spent an entire day taking part in what seemed to be the world’s largest water fight. Equipped with our own water guns and camping out on the street with locals, we pumped our water guns and filled up buckets all day long, drenching people along Khao San Road. You would never expect that just days before, violence had erupted during an anti-government protest on these same streets. On this day, people were nothing but happy, playful, and soaking wet!

[Harajuku, Japan] Being young in Japan means showing the world what you're made of. These young ladies were performing on the famous Harajuku Bridge on a beautiful Monday afternoon. With a huge, cheering crowd surrounding them, they danced their hearts out to original songs until the police escorted them away for not having performance licenses.

[Huayllarccocha, Peru] Ernesto is one of over 40 students at Cafe Social Yuraq Ch'aska, a small one-room schoolhouse with just one professor in the rural town of Huayllarccocha, on the outskirts of Cusco, Peru. Ernesto is fluent in both Spanish and Quechua, as are all of the children in his community, and is currently studying hard to learn English, so that he may travel to the United States when he's older. In the meantime, Ernesto works on his family's potato farm, where his cheeks have become chapped by the strong winds of the mountainous region.

[Kfar Tavor, Israel] When in need of a break from the hectic city of Tel-Aviv, I would often find myself visiting my friend's family in Northern Israel for a weekend of wonderful company, delicious food, and air conditioning. What could be better?

While visiting one weekend, I spent time with the youngest of three daughters, Or. At age 12, she was preparing for her Bat-Mitzvah—her entry into womanhood. Since my camera was always on me, Or asked if I could help make an album to be given to her guests. We drove to all of her favorite spots around town (places that I later found out had been previously planned before I agreed to do the shoot) and went through countless outfit changes. Israeli women make just about anything look good, whether it's silk "genie" pants, platform boots, scarves, or mismatched patterns, and this was also the case with Or. She made the very busy patterns of the hot pink keffiyeh (traditional Arab headdress) knock-off and patterned hoodie work well together. But it's Or's expression that really seems to make the outfit work. Is attitude the secret to being a fashonista?

[El Tatio, Chile] The best time to observe the geysers of El Tatio is at the break of dawn. The hot vapor rising from the ground in El Tatio gives the impression that the earth is alive, breathing. The largest geyser field in the Southern Hemisphere, El Tatio is a tourist attraction, as well as a site of spiritual importance for the Atacameños, the region's indigenous people. Unbeknownst to many tourists, El Tatio is also at the center of a long-running debate. While energy companies seek to exploit the geysers' geothermal potential, local activists fear that this would slowly kill the geysers altogether, leaving the area without its all-important source of tourist income.

[Daegu, South Korea] This photo was taken during a student organization fair at the university I attended in South Korea. [Agra, India] This photo was taken just outside the fabled Taj Mahal in India. While walking the grounds surrounding it, I noticed this woman in front of me. I stopped, held up my camera, and asked her permission to take her portrait. The beggar’s face provided a stark contrast to the opulence of the nearby mausoleum.
