Rosanna Shoup
My name is Rosanna Shoup. I grew up in small town Iowa, which means, for most of my life I've been surrounded by a polite white Christian society. 'Diversity' meant someone pointing out the black kid or the Jewish boy in the class room. 'Race' meant a lecture about prejudice during the month of February or on MLK day. 'Culture' meant the State Fair and fatty foods, and 'ethnicity' meant 'ethnic' and was used in combination with the Mexican/Chinese food you were eating and the waiters who served it. Currently I'm a student at Kalamazoo College in Michigan where I attempt to stave off the Midwestern mentality and drag my perspective out of that tight space of white/christian/hetero privilege and learn to understand the world as a mosaic of beauty. I am currently majoring in psychology and religion and I am on study abroad in Beer Sheva, Israel at Ben Gurion University.
